Policy Interests
In addition to our legislative priorities, ICAA also has policy interests that include, but are not limited to:
* Abusive Behavior - Realize a reduction in Child abuse, alcohol & drug abuse, domestic violence.
* Childcare – Access and affordability to low-income Iowans.
* Commission on Community Action Agencies – Policies and procedures that enable Community Action Agencies to serve low-income Iowans effectively and efficiently.
* Education – Childcare and Family Literacy.
* Employment – Job-training, pre-employment training and the creation of new job skills.
* Healthcare – Family Planning Services, Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, Smoking Cessation, Maternal & Child Health Care, Childhood Immunization, Vision & Dental Screening, Lead Abatement/Prevention, Developmental Screening and EPSDT.
* Housing – Home Ownership Opportunities, Transitional Housing, Crisis Intervention, Housing Repair Programs and Homeless Shelter Assistance.
* Legal Services – Access, equal representation and affordability to low-income Iowans.
* Living Wage – Interim Study to research the establishment of an “Iowa” Living Wage.
* Minimum Wage Increase – Minimum Wage that moves the state closer to achieving a Living Wage.
* Nutrition – Child & Adult Care Food Programs, Congregate Meals for the Elderly, Nutrition Education for Families.
* Public Health & Health Services – Timely access and affordability of quality healthcare for low-income Iowans.
* Transportation – Access and affordability to low-income Iowans.
* Welfare-to-Work – Effective social services programs and an educational infrastructure that will ensure maximum participation and success for low-income Iowans.
