Embrace Iowa
Embrace Iowa is a program sponsored by the Des Moines Register to assist families with unmet needs through donations. Applications for the Embrace Iowa program are being taken through January 15, 2011, at the outreach centers. Applicants must have income at or below 150% of poverty guidelines. Exceptions may be made on case-to-case basis if household has experienced significant loss of income in past 90 days which can be documented. Only one application can be filled out per household with maximum dollar amount of $500. Documentation of need must be included with the application including a cost estimate or bill. Basic needs other than food receive priority. Needs which people may apply for include rent; utilities; medical expenses which includes pharmacy, dental and corrective lenses; car repair, furniture, appliances.
