Weatherization Statewide Training Program
ARRA Statewide Weatherization Crew and Contractor Training Program Course Description
The ARRA Statewide Weatherization Crew and Contractor Training Program (WX Crew Training) provides Weatherization crews and contractors training on basic Weatherization techniques, including:
- House as a System
- Insulation
- Attics
- Walls
- Crawlspaces
- Construction
- Material Specifications
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Health and Safety
- Mobile Homes
- Lead Safe Work practices
- Slate Safe Work Practices
The training is based upon the Iowa Weatherization Work standards and is designed as a café program, which can be customized to include individual components or taken in its entirety.
The training program provides both classroom and in-the-field components. When taken in its entirety, the program is designed as a three-day course, with half-days in a classroom setting and half-days in the field. To view the course syllabus, click here. The classroom training has pre- and post-training skill and knowledge assessments to help gauge the participant's knowledge before and after the classroom instruction.
Hands-on, in-the-field training requires host agencies to provide an evaluated home with completed work order. Trainers will arrive with a fully functional Weatherization work vehicle (pictures). Trained crew members will assist host agencies trainees with Weatherization techniques. A number of mock up common household configurations are available and could be left behind for additional training.
A “flash team” may be requested for short-turnaround, limited training opportunities. Contact WX Crew Training Program Manager Mark Davis for more information.
For Registration information, click here.
The Statewide Weatherization Crew and Contractor Training is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is provided with no cost or fees to agencies and contractors.
