Whether volunteers interact directly with children and families or indirectly through advocacy and other forms of service, every gift of time and caring takes us one step closer to achieving our vision.
MICA has had the pleasure of strong partnerships with hundreds of community members like you. These partnerships are key to empowering and serving children and families. MICA's volunteers truly help people, change lives, and build communities.

EITC Tax Preparer
The EITC Program would not be possible without the help of many special volunteers who dedicate their time to serving others through tax preparation. No experience is necessary to serve as an EITC tax preparer, but familiarity with tax preparation and computers is helpful. Volunteers simply prepare tax returns for low income families using a computer software system. Some training is required and supervision is provided.
The EITC Program has proven to be one of the most effective methods to helping families becoming self-sufficient. Your donation of of your time is crucial to keeping this program successful!
EITC Translator
MICA's EITC Program serves a wide variety of families throughout Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek, and Tama County. You can also help these families by serving as a translator at our local EITC appointments. These appointments typically take place between January and March and have no required minimum devoted time. MICA is looking for someone with your abilities to help us change the lives of local families.
Early Head Start and Head Start Classroom Volunteers
Head Start and Early Head Start classroom volunteers fulfill a very important role in the lives of 379 children 0-5 everyday throughout Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek, Story and Tama counties. Volunteers work side by side MICA's teaching staff to care for and provide quality early education services through reading, talking, jumping, listening, eating, playing, writing, hammering, painting, running, clapping, signing, resting ...
Join MICA's Early Childhood teachers in providing these valuable early childhood experiences. Be a Volunteer! Volunteers can assist in Head Start classrooms located in Nevada, Story City, Huxley, Eldora, Iowa Falls, Tama, Grinnell, and Marshalltown. All volunteer hours are flexible.
Food Pantry Volunteer
MICA administers emergency food pantries in Ames, Grinnell, and Iowa Falls. Volunteers help organize donated items and stock pantry shelves. Come and make a difference for families throughout your county.
